Our Tips: Keeping Your Wool Pet Bed Clean

Maintaining a clean and hygienic sleeping environment for your pet is essential for their well-being. Wool pet beds, with their natural durability and comfort, are an ideal choice, but they do require some care to keep them in top condition. Here are our some tips for keeping your wool pet bed clean and fresh.

Regular Shaking and Brushing

One of the simplest ways to keep your wool pet bed clean is to shake it out regularly. This helps to remove loose dirt, pet hair, and dust that can accumulate on the surface. After shaking, use a pet-safe brush to gently brush the bed. This will help to lift any embedded dirt and keep the wool fibers soft.

Spot Cleaning for Minor Stains

Accidents happen, and when they do, it’s important to address them quickly. For minor stains or spills, spot cleaning is your best option. Start by blotting the area with a clean, dry cloth to absorb as much of the liquid as possible. Then, using a mixture of lukewarm water and a small amount of mild, pet-safe detergent, gently dab the stained area with a soft cloth. Avoid scrubbing, as this can damage the wool fibers.

Regular Airing Out

Wool has natural moisture-wicking properties, but it’s still important to air out your pet’s bed regularly. This helps to prevent any build-up of moisture that can lead to odors or mildew. Simply place the bed outside in a shaded, well-ventilated area for a few hours. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can cause the wool to fade or become brittle over time.

Deep Cleaning When Necessary

While regular maintenance will keep your wool pet bed in good condition, it’s also important to give it a deep clean every few months. You can wash the pet bed in the washing machine.

The bed consists of a main bed and a pillow inside. The supportive pillow has a sewn-in zipper, so you can remove the filling and wash the pillowcase too. Use gentle wool detergent. Avoid wringing or twisting the wool, as this can cause it to lose its shape.
